Scientist Alec Holland was working on a formula to grow plant life in areas without it. A rival organization that desired the formula detonated a bomb that threw Alec into his bio-restorative serum. To escape the flames of the explosion, he was forced to plunge into a nearby swamp where he transformed into the strange hero known as Swamp Thing! Swamp Thing possesses superhuman strength and the ability to regenerate any part of his body.
