Prepare Yourself

The life of an adventurer is not about becoming all-powerful. It's about outsmarting your enemies and planning ahead to overcome your challenges. Set traps, use special equipment, perform a magical ritual, bring your friends. Think of a solution tailored to your problem rather than rushing into danger.

Combat is not the only obstacle

While bandits and monsters are serious threats, you also need to eat, drink, and sleep to survive. You need to set up your camp to pass the night, and sometimes, cold weather or an infectious disease can be the greatest danger you face.

No Turning Back

Outward constantly auto-saves, meaning you cannot reload to a previous state when things don't go your way. You must put yourself in the character's shoes and think through the situation instead of trying things and reloading every so often.

Dynamic Defeat Scenarios

Defeat in a battle against a group of bandits won't just lead you to a "game over" screen. Instead, you might wake up to find yourself held for ransom, or dragged into the woods and left to die after being robbed of your belongings. Failure is part of life, and defeat is part of the journey for every adventurer.

Ritualistic Magic

Casting spells shouldn't be as simple as pressing a button. To cast spells in Outward, you need to know the steps of the ritual and perform them in order yourself. For example, to cast a fire spell, you must use a light stone to create a luminous sign, and then create a spark while standing in the middle of the magic circle to create the fiery projectile.

A Different Story Each Time

Every new playthrough offers something different. You can't be good at everything and help everyone. By replaying the game, you can play with a different character, join a different faction with its own story, and gain access to different skills and items. As a bonus, you keep something from the previously completed story for the next game through the Legacy system.
