19th century. Two of the world's most important sculptors, Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel, fall in love. Rodin, who was simultaneously in another, permanent relationship, discovers and is inspired by the story of a 13th-century illicit couple, Paolo and Francesca, who lived a secret love affair while Francesca was married to Paolo's brother, who eventually murders them. Two tempestuous love stories that will intersect and leave behind some of the masterpieces of world art.

Rodin will create The Thinker, The Gates of Hell, and The Kiss, depicting the embraced Paolo and Francesca. And he will become famous. In contrast, the patriarchal era will destroy Camille Claudel's talent and psyche and confine her to a mental institution.

"I knew I wanted to create a performance about time, about what we leave behind as a memory of our passage through life, about people who struggle, about the girls and boys who got married without really knowing why, and about those who fell in love and pursued their love to the end," the author notes in the introductory note of the edition.
