Description
Laphroaig 10 Years Old is a malt Scotch whisky from the island of Islay in the west of Scotland. During its production, the malted barley is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, found only on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavor. It is best enjoyed neat or with a little cool water. Its taste envelops your tongue, releasing the spicy, earthy aroma of blue peat smoke, the sweet nutty sensation of barley, and the refined scent of heather from the rivers of Islay.

In an episode of Blacklist, Red pronounced Islay outrageously wrong and expressed a preference for the Scottish Highland because the water "is lay" has a taste full of seaweed and iodine. Many believe it and many disagree. Here, however, the smokiness, saltiness, and iodine are glorified in a whisky that Red would shoot anyone who served it to him. Rarely have the heavy characteristics of Islay been rendered with such intensity and depth. It is somewhat expensive and is for special tastes that - if they get to know it - will not drink any other Scotch afterwards!

Did you find this review helpful?The first time it was opened and tasted, although I like and am accustomed to smoky malt whiskies, this one seemed intense, quite smoky and somewhat medicinal, with a hint of iodine that reminded me a bit of betadine. A little salty, seaweed, ocean... I wasn't particularly impressed, but it was simply a nice smoky single malt that was relatively enjoyable to drink. The taste was decent. And now that it has been opened, let's move on to the next, the day after, etc., after it has also taken in the air inside the bottle... It pleasantly surprised me! Its taste changed a lot for the better, as did its aroma, as it became much more flavorful and balanced in every aspect, and it truly deserves its price and is, of course, value for money for what it offers!!! The aftertaste is great. Smoke and peat are nice and at good levels. Recommended for those who enjoy smoky flavors...!!! Don't rush to judge it immediately as soon as you open and drink it... Give it time and at least a day after it's opened, and you will remember me...! Plus, you will get used to it and even better... Don't rely solely on the first impression when it is opened...! It's a gem! However, I still prefer the 16-year-old Lagavulin, which won me over among Talisker, Ardbeg, and Laphroaig 10.

I like some smoky cheeses, but not all, and of course, many are not smoky. The same goes for whisky. This falls into the "not" category for me. The sensation doesn't suit me, or rather, it doesn't evoke the same landscape feeling as other whiskies from Islay. If you give it to a friend to smell, they will tell you it smells like betadine.

Did you find this review helpful?I tried it for the first time at a shop today without ever having tried a smoky whiskey before, except for the famous grouse smoked, which I wouldn't say is considered smoky. When I smelled it, I was surprised because I didn't imagine that I would smell such strong smoke, which reminded me of charcoal. I obviously knew what I was getting into. The smoke doesn't let you notice anything else in terms of taste or smell, as it completely dominates. If you don't have experience with smoky flavors, it will definitely surprise you, but it requires getting used to. At this stage, you might prefer something sweeter and more fruity like Balvenie, but I will definitely try other smoky ones. Ardbeg has a range..

I don't know what they do over there in Islay, but their whiskies are unmatched. The southern neighborhood along with Lagavulin and Ardbeg is simply the Holy Trinity of smokers. Fans, just hurry up.
