Giannis Ioannidis was so infused with the filter of victory that he couldn't conceive of making the slightest concession in pursuing and achieving it at any cost! He even proclaimed it with that irresistible sardonic smile of his: "Even if I'm playing cards with my mother, I want to crush her!"
He was indeed a born winner, who wouldn't back down from anyone and could move mountains to prevail. Truly, he could do anything to seize the spoils of any victory, in any competition, against any opponent...
In his youth, he jumped off a wall and hung like... Tarzan on the branches of a tree opposite, because a friend of his, named Nikos Ioannidis, challenged him that he supposedly couldn't do it.
"The bet is on," he said full of determination.
So he jumped. He grabbed the branch, which couldn't hold him, and fell with the price of his ignorance of danger, his bravery, and his... madness being a serious fracture!
His friend went over him in a panic to help him get up and was about to notify his mother...
Defying the damage and unbearable pain, the "Blonde" shouted with all his might: "I won the bet, man. I grabbed the tree!"
The great basketball strategist, the "Blonde Rommel," as he was called on the front page of Fos ton Spor in June 1991, with his appointment as the head coach of Olympiacos, passed away on October 4, 2023, leaving behind an invaluable legacy.
A year later, his life and career are presented in this book through his own narratives to Dimitris Karydas and Vasilis Skountis, which demonstrate who he was... He was a BORN WINNER!

It is a well-written and easy-to-read book for anyone interested in reading about the life and works of the greatest basketball coach in Greece!
An excellent book about the history of basketball, the basketball of Thessaloniki, Aris, Olympiakos, and the National team by the highly successful Greek coach. Whether you love him or hate him, Xanthos has a place in your life and it is a book worth reading and flipping through. Perhaps if it had been done earlier, before health issues, there would have been more details and more "color" about Ioannidis, but still, it is a must for the basketball fan.
