Two siblings with a cold, thermometers at the ready, tissues and toys scattered on the floor. A dad and a mom with the fever reducer in hand and a dog with a big appetite and strange taste preferences... "It's yuck!" shouts Iro. "It's eww!" complains Meletis. "It's yummy!" exclaims Smart. But what is this medicine, really?

Excellent book for children who have trouble taking their syrup. Well-written, humorous, fun, with amazing illustrations. Children will definitely love it!
Tell me how Marina Ploumpi always manages to enchant children with her books?
My children (5.5 and 8 years old) loved this book from the very first moment and since then they want to read it every day. And while they usually disagree on which book to read, they both happily agree on this book every time!
In this book, two siblings, Iro and Meletis, catch a virus and need to take their medicine to get better. And just at the mention of the "magical" word "syrup," the children hide to avoid it. The only one who finds it "yummy" is Smart, the family's dog.
And even though the theme of the book could be unpleasant for children and could scratch wounds, it is amazing how enjoyable, funny, and entertaining this book is overall, resulting in the children loving it. A book with this theme could turn manipulative or could try to convince children that the syrup is tasty. However, this book is very successful because it is not manipulative at all, it does not underestimate children's intelligence, it expresses the truth but presents it in a pleasant way, with entertaining illustrations but mainly with love. Because this book overflows with love. It shows the love of parents for their children who stand by them with tenderness, hugs, and kindness, the love and support between siblings, the love and support among all family members (including Smart).
And if you ask me what I think is the answer to my initial question, how Marina manages to win the hearts of children, the answer for me is one: She manages it because she loves children, because she always listens to children, observes them, and cares for them. And the books she publishes are for the good of the children, to help children entertain themselves and grow in balance. And this love is returned to her a thousandfold by her children. Children always return love!
