I got it to place the food and water bowls for the little cat so that the "spills" can be cleaned easily. It works just fine, thin, elegant, and for the moment it seems durable. It has textured paws, so it requires a little effort to clean dried stains. It is extremely non-slip. I believe both this one and the next larger size are suitable for this job. The only downside is that it arrived with a strong smell of plastic and storage, and it needed a good wash and airing out.
