I already own the very good Philips 55OLED707 in my living room, and due to having small children, I wanted to move the PS5, Xbox, and PC to a small space that will be used as a gaming room, so initially, I chose the Xiaomi G Pro 27i mini LED gaming monitor. However, once you try OLED, you can't go back; even though the aforementioned monitor is very good for its category, I switched to the LG OLED C4 42'. At first, I was afraid it would be too big for my desk (about 80×80 cm) and would bother me, but from the very first moment, it was perfect, and I didn't even need any adjustment time, so those of you considering it as a gaming monitor and have at least a desk with this depth, don't hesitate.
Next, the LG will inevitably be compared to my 55-inch Philips. Initially, because in this size the LG does not use an Evo panel (I knew this before I bought it), the brightness is a bit lower, but even so, at least for me, who uses it in a room with low lighting, I have no issues. The quality seems to be very well made, and its legs are quite stable (unfortunately, the 42-inch does not come with a central stand). The LG menu doesn't seem very user-friendly to me, but I imagine you get used to it over time. In terms of speed, it's a bit slow compared to the Philips, which is lightning fast. The remote control, although it looks "fake," is very good in use.
As for the picture, it's magical, of course. I haven't had the chance to play much with the settings yet, but I was impressed that at least in the gaming mode where I connected the PS5 and PC to test games, I think that without exaggeration, it might not need any changes or at least very minimal ones, unlike the Philips, where its initial modes were mediocre, and I had to make several adjustments after some searching. The only downside is with the Xbox, where the picture in the same gaming mode isn't as good, but I imagine it just needs a bit more tweaking.
The sound seemed a bit worse than the Philips, but not at a tragic level; it does the job just fine. In conclusion, the initial very high price of the 42-inch has already started to drop, as has the entire C4 series, and those considering it for a gaming monitor should not hesitate, as I think it simply has no competition at this price point.
