It is worth the money especially if you have other devices in the company's ecosystem. Its handling is easy and quick. The control from other devices is excellent and immediate while at the same time the screen sharing from MacBook, iPhone, or iPad is very useful. Otherwise, it has a sleek appearance and the remote is very easy to use.
Initially, I wanted it only for movies and music, which it excels at. However, I didn't expect to enjoy the arcade games it has so much. I also bought an Xbox controller and now it serves me perfectly as a console substitute.
So the device was purchased for the following reason:
My TV was not so new, so as an iPhone user, I couldn't do screen mirroring to enjoy whatever I wanted since my TV doesn't have airplay, and the only thing I could have was the pre-installed Netflix and YouTube.
However, I have subscriptions to other applications such as Disney+ and Spotify, applications that I couldn't access through my TV.
So I bought this little box.
This little thing works wonders, and only someone who has almost a complete Apple ecosystem will fully appreciate it.
It connects with AirPods, which means that when I have someone sleeping, I can watch my favorite series quietly and nicely on my TV.
The picture and sound are amazing, especially if you connect it to external devices like a home cinema or AirPods, etc.
I have no complaints, and I don't think there will be any. It doesn't lag, it doesn't freeze, it has made a 16-inch TV look like a 23-inch with its interface.
For now, I am very satisfied, and if I notice anything, I will return to fix it.
PLEASE NOTE: Because it is Apple, many people will not be able to connect to pirate streaming platforms for security reasons, etc., so if you are only interested in something like that, do not buy it
I got it to have a TV box and also have Apple TV and the Vodafone TV app. Obviously, Vodafone intentionally doesn't support it. It works great with Apple TV, IPTV, Disney plus, Netflix, etc. It's okay with Apple Home.
I'm deducting one star due to the price and the fact that the remote cannot support games, so you need an extra controller
It is excellent like all Apple products. Fast, never freezes, and with an awesome controller. However, if someone wants it for USB playback, it simply doesn't have such a port. Also, there is no application for Cosmote TV and NEON, for which the providers are to blame and not Apple.
I bought it to revitalize a 2017 smart TV in the living room, which has a very nice panel but the apps (especially Plex and Disney+) were very slow. It achieved my goal 100%!
- First of all, it controls the TV (which I didn't know, it was a pleasant surprise). So you can adjust the volume and turn it on/off without using the TV control at all.
- It has many applications through the app store and you can use it as a smart hub for Apple Home - I saw with interest the Apple Fitness+ which doesn't seem to be available in Greece yet (May 2023).
- The UI is very nice and fast, it has Netflix, Amazon, Plex, Spotify, and of course all the Apple services, which work perfectly and very quickly.
- You can display the image from all Apple devices and laptops.
- The control has touch and is very user-friendly, and you can also use Siri in English (e.g. open Netflix).
- You can use any iPhone or iPad as a control and also for typing.
- If you want to use another control, such as the TV's, it can learn it and work with it (simultaneously with its own).
I recommend it, for me it was worth it as a purchase (€189 for the version with ethernet), considering that I was satisfied with my TV's panel and I just wanted better performance in the menus, seeking, etc. It also helped significantly that I uninstalled all the apps (except for live TV) from the TV, now it opens and closes immediately.
We are talking about the strongest boxing in the world, but what good is it if you have, for example, a helicopter without a propeller? This opinion is temporary, if something changes and I find solutions, I will come back. Firstly, my opinion is why do you get a boxing, that is, for what purpose will you use it, for music, movies, photos, games... for all of these, if for all of these, then for me it lacks firstly it does not have programs like stremio ok I knew that before I got it... but the fact that it has a very limited range of applications compared to, for example, an iPad... I did not expect that. Basically, it does not have any VPN application... unacceptable for me!!! They (Apple) may do it for personal security reasons since they have a streaming channel... but why should I care, since I am getting it for boxing to install my program StbemuPro (which works perfectly on iPad with VPN) which I assume those who deal with such things know that it needs VPN for some providers (let's not mention names) so that there are no interruptions!!!! if you get it just to watch Netflix and such, I assume it's too expensive since you can do your job just fine with a Xiaomi for 50 euros or 80 euros with a mecool from China which is best for value... it does not have USB ok what did I know if you want to watch movies as others have said here, you can connect a hard drive to your router (if it has one, which most do nowadays) to load the movies... I said at the beginning it's a temporary rating because I have a Fritz router that supports virtual VPN which I am trying to activate, it's not so easy for me sometimes without succeeding... basically it does not have a browser... can someone tell me what it has?? come on... it takes a lot of work to make use of this boxing the way I want and if I manage to, I am dealing with it because I regret the money I spent... seen.
As a streaming box (visual & audio), it's top-notch! It doesn't freeze, it doesn't crash, it just works flawlessly. The picture and sound quality are simply perfect! The expandability through TVOS is super! You can add apps and enhance and personalize your Apple TV experience to the fullest. When it comes to games, that's where I've gone overboard! I thought it would be a gimmick, but I'm hooked! I also got a compatible controller and I play for hours when I have the time. My kids love it too! The fact that I can continue my gaming on my phone is fantastic. Besides the Appstore games, it also plays Apple Arcade, which has 200+ games, at least 10 of which I'm obsessed with! Additionally, you can load retro games (Amiga, CPC6128, PlayStation 1, SEGA, Nintendo, etc.). I was going to get a console, but now that I have the Apple TV, I don't need to spend on Sony. I am thoroughly satisfied!
Very good for what it offers. I deducted one star for the following reasons:
The connection with the homepod is a bit problematic.
The hdr10+ did not play correctly on my TV.
Stremio is not available and does not play even through airplay from iPhone.
Very good for a media player, very good sound and image quality. If it also supported DTS, it would be excellent. The price is a bit high, but if you have an Apple ecosystem, it's worth it.

Apart from the price, which should normally be 189€, it is a very good device.
It is not necessary as a device, especially for new televisions. But if you want perfect response without any lag, it is very good. However, if you have an older smart TV, it will give it a new life. Also, you must understand that "Apple TV" will support new versions for a very long time and you will never be outdated in terms of applications, etc. The storage space is more than enough because now all content is through streaming.
Another reason to buy it is the connectivity it provides. For example, an application called "infuse" which is essentially a media player (you can also use vlc but I recommend this one). I cannot go into great detail but if you know what SMB or NAS is, you will be satisfied with the mentioned application. You can easily test it because it is available for both mobile and PC. This application connects to the shared storage space (SMB or NAS) and at the same time recognizes the movies, downloads metadata, and provides a free "Netflix" experience. It downloads subtitles from "OpenSubtitles" if you don't have the file. If you can't find Greek subtitles, simply search for subtitles on another site on the internet, put them in the same folder with the same name as the movie, check if everything is correct, and nothing else. Just go to the living room, refresh the list with the press of a button, and continue as usual.
I now use this application on my computer as well because it is essentially a personal "Netflix" but with my own movies on the computer instead of the server that "Netflix" has.
The application is free but it also has a monthly payment of 1€ or a one-time payment of 100€. But you don't need it unless you want cloud streaming. That is, if you have a Google drive with 2TB of space and you have your movies there.
As for the sound, it gives you new possibilities. For example, I can have my MacBook and the TV playing a song at the same time. This can be a speaker but I don't know well about the speakers, the quantities, or if you can have surround sound (I don't think so).
As for games, there are some nice ones like "dead cells" and you can connect controllers. But there is also the "steam link" application to stream games from the PC.
The version with the new "thread protocol" is a must and it provides Ethernet as an additional port. Unfortunately, Apple has such marketing tactics that push you to buy the higher model. The device also functions as a hub, which is a must for smart homes.
If you are not in a hurry to buy, it is good to wait and get it for 219€ or even cheaper.
