Description

This book is intended for those who love theater and the life of the stage. It is also a tool for stage practice aimed at theater people: actors, directors, students and professors of university theater departments, students and teachers of drama schools or directing schools. However, it does not aim to lead them on a closed path of "method." By proposing a series of practical tools for managing theatrical text, it seeks to multiply the questions and possible paths for approaching them through a dynamic dialogue with texts by great masters of theatrical art. Verbal action refers to the conscious involvement of the body in the process of delivering the theatrical text, regardless of the theatrical form the actor serves each time, and presupposes the often transcendental or poetic use of all the expressive tools at their disposal: breathing, gaze, body posture, rhythm, tones, gestures, etc. The main body of reflection on the issues of verbal action initially emerged during the period from 2005 to 2014, within the framework of artistic research developed by the Kanigunda troupe. The research on the tools and qualities of verbal actions continued in collaboration with students of theater practice studies within the framework of acting classes conducted by Yiannis Leontaris until 2011 at the Theater Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and from 2011 to the present at the Department of Theater Studies of the University of Peloponnese. Finally, it was enriched with new elements through performances, theater workshops, and collaborations with professional actors who followed this research path with him.
