The well-known filter that, despite the poor quality of materials (after a while, it leaks from everywhere), has good water quality at a relatively low price. WARNING!!! This specific one (white), although the description says "The filter included contains carbon etc. etc.", in the specifications, it states that it does NOT include a filter. So the box inside has a place for a replacement filter, which is missing. Of course, there is a sticker in Greek on the box that points this out, although the box in English says it includes it.

It's a good filter for home use. In Athens, with the cheap replacement filter, you're fine. One star less for the cheap build quality, but okay, if you handle it carefully and you're not rough with it, you can use it for quite a while.

I decided to write an honest review after 16 years of using the instapure device. First of all, the old quality of materials is night and day compared to the Chinese manufacturing that exists today. All devices break down; none are immortal. There are many reasons, such as network salts, excessive use, etc. An old device made in America could last up to 8 years. The new Chinese models last 3 to 4 years at most with normal use, and possibly even less than 3 years. The most common failures are in the water flow, due to the internal hoses that wear out. Another common issue is that the faucet for filtered water splashes a bit sideways, and also a small amount of water leaks from the filter faucet when you have the switch turned to the position for just the network water flow (not the filter). Additionally, the switch can break more easily. On the positive side, the water quality is good, and the flow rate of the filtered water is normal. I use the R2 filter, as the R5 and R7 now cost a fortune. Five years ago, I remember the R5 costing 7.5 euros and the R7 costing 10 euros. Now the prices are at least double, and perhaps even more. They must be putting gold in the activated carbon; otherwise, it doesn't make sense.... In conclusion, the filter is good for home use but has a short lifespan. Therefore, I buy it at my own risk, knowing that in 3 years it will be for the trash. The lifespan decreases even more if you live in an area with hard water and a lot of salts. There are definitely more economical and better filters, as well as more expensive and better ones. I would prefer the prices of instapure products to be a bit lower so that they reflect the actual quality of their products, which is worse.

It is not a good filter. Apart from dripping from various points, a black goo is created from the water that remains inside and falls into the water. The water continues to have a bad taste and is undrinkable, unfortunately we only use it for cooking but it doesn't even work for that in reality.

I bought the filter at the end of January 2023 and have been using it since then, until recently. It is not recommended for two reasons: (1) The installation was problematic, as the included components did not fit our faucet and I had to improvise to install it. Well, it got done. It works, but it should have been much easier. (2) But the most important reason is that it does nothing to clean the water -- in fact, quite the opposite! Recently, I discovered with a TDS meter that the water quality from the filter is worse than the water quality straight from the faucet! It takes a special "talent" to produce a water filter that makes the water worse than before. Shameful!

I ordered the device with 4+1 filters (€70) and it took me a bit over an hour to install, trying to find the right combination with the seals, and now it doesn't splash and there are no leaks from anywhere. OK. Now to the point, I saved myself from carrying plastic, costs, etc., we drink water that is not lacking in taste, it's pleasant to drink, and I am satisfied. Now for the rest, it needs analysis, maybe at some point, I hope it does what it promises. If someone has done analyses, let us know. I don't give 5 stars because it's too early to judge a product in a week - 10 days.
27/11/2024 after almost 2 years I have to say that yes, it is economical, yes it does its job but it reminds me of the canyon "it always rains" it leaks from everywhere. I have been using it for over ten years and what is important for me is that it does not smell like chlorine in taste, while I use it for cooking and washing fruits and vegetables. For Athens, where the water is soft and without particular issues, I use the economical filter that the company has recommended to me and I change it approximately every three months, maybe even more. For other areas where the water may have issues with heavy metals or be brackish, a different type of filter should be used. Now, as far as installation is concerned, I should point out that my (external) filter is clearly of higher quality than the later ones I have seen and I have never needed to change anything. Recently, when I moved and took the filter with me, I left some parts on the previous faucet that I couldn't remove by hand and bought new ones. My husband, who tried to install the filter, had a leak and I repositioned it by tightening it enough (with my hands) and now it doesn't leak. Don't forget to put the rubber ring that the faucet itself has in the installation because without it there will be a leak. Also, do not use hot water in the filter because it will break. Especially now that we have two babies, I consider a water filter necessary instead of buying bottled water with significantly higher cost and environmental impact, while with the same mindset we have also bought air purifiers for the house.
edit: Because I saw in a review that according to a tds meter the water quality is worse than the tap water, I got into the mood to investigate and according to a video I saw with a guy measuring water qualities with tds, tap water, bottled water, and filter, the ranking from worst to best is: Vichy, Zagori, new water filter, old water filter, and tap water. It is good for soft city water, as it holds small solids and chlorine. Cheap and honest solution. In hard water, it won't last long. Replacement after a few years but it will have paid for itself.

I have been using it for the last 15 years. Often (every 2-3 years) the device breaks down. It could be due to the salts, it could be due to the cheap materials it is made of, it could be both, the fact is that somewhere, something will break. Also, with the type of filter I use (medium quality, R5), the water flows slowly and towards the end of the filter's life, it flows agonizingly slowly.
So why do I continue to buy it? Because it offers very good water quality at a reasonable price. I haven't had it analyzed, but the water it produces has absolutely no resemblance to tap water in taste, and it hasn't given us any other worrying samples (particles, etc.).
I would prefer if it was all made of stainless steel, cost €100, and I knew I would never have to buy another one.
