My doctor recommended them to me, as he has been taking them for many years. He told me that I can take them for life, and of course, I trust him. They are really good and they do what they say.
I am 60 years old and I have noticed a big difference, but it takes a little time as it is a supplement.
I bought it for my grandfather who is over 90 in good condition for his age. He told me that it helped him with his health and as soon as they finish, I will reorder it for him.
We want to know what we see in matters concerning our body and our health so that we can make informed choices for ourselves and our loved ones.
Here we have a well-known and heavily advertised product. What makes it different for people over 50, as it claims? Nothing. It is simply a multivitamin like all the others on the market. Is there a special formulation that will provide us with specific benefits compared to any other multivitamin? No, it is a typical multivitamin.
Beyond that, what we look for in a multivitamin is whether the vitamins and minerals are in an active form that the body can use as is. For example, we prefer folate as methylfolate (many of us have difficulty metabolizing plain folic acid, it is something common). If something contains magnesium in the form of magnesium oxide or magnesium carbonate, this is a cheap and poorly absorbed magnesium from which we will absorb only 10-15%. And so on with various vitamins and minerals.
So, for example, here we have B12 as cyanocobalamin, plain folic acid, magnesium, and lead in the form of oxide. Selenium is in the form of sodium selenite, which is an inorganic salt that is cheap and poorly absorbed. The active form of selenium in our food is selenomethionine.
The quantities (of vitamins per tablet) are moderate. I find the price to be below average.
Centrum is a product of a pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer. This means that it has the budget to advertise on a daily basis and a colorful packaging that gives it a "scientific" air.
Looking at what is available, you will find much better options. That is, better price, larger quantities, and more active forms.
They are good vitamins. You don't feel like Superman right away, but every winter that I take them, I have never gotten sick. I don't consider it a coincidence.
We used it for my mother-in-law who is almost bedridden due to a fracture (86 years old) with minimal appetite, and after a week she seemed better with improved color and appetite, and with the willingness to sit for at least 1 hour. After two months, she is even able to take a few steps. However, since she is 86 years old, it would be better to use the 50+ Centrum.
