  I don't have an opinion yet on rugged trails.
  Let's see the basics. In everyday use, they are classic and beautiful, very lightweight with a solid, almost seamless tread that unfortunately has lower grip on wet surfaces compared to boots that cost 35 euros. Overall, the quality for the price of 145 euros is unacceptable compared to the equivalent model from 2021 that I had before. And I'll conclude with two issues that I noticed. The lacing cuts into your foot strongly if you make the mistake of tightening them well. And secondly (I believe it's the materials of the toe and mainly the design), they cause sweating in the toes. Conclusion: If I found them for under 90 euros, I would buy them again. Otherwise, they're not worth it.
  P.S.: They really don't smell like SALOMON

  I just got them so time will tell if they are durable. I have to say they are a bit narrow (and I don't have wide feet). Maybe they loosen up in time. I usually get 43 but purchased number 44 as I read a lot of reviews saying that you should get a bigger number and I can confirm that. Overall I think you should go and try on your feet if possible to see if they are comfortable for you and also for the proper size. That said I'm happy with the purchase.

  In the photos, the X Ultra 4 Mid GTX is shown side by side with the X Ultra 3 Mid GTX. The previous model in the photo has undergone 560 km of abuse in the mountains.

  I have the feeling that the plastic parts on the heel and toe were more reinforced in the old model, especially on the lower back, where the shoe encounters rocks as shown in the photo of the old model...
  The sole is 95% the same.
  The design is also the same with a slight difference in the tongue, which covers the Achilles tendon higher.
  Also, the new model is more flexible in the front.

  Update 06/2024. After about 100 km of "wood" with the new model, I hadn't decided if they suited me as much as the previous ones until I did a very difficult ascent-descent where I realized that the new model does exactly what we buy it for. It protects you fully when jumping from rock to rock for hours, and the soles of the feet look as if you haven't covered any km on rough terrain.

  For those who prefer Salomon and are familiar with the company, I would say that the quality has declined but it is not at the bottom. The laces need to be replaced directly if they are not intended for simple everyday use. The sole started to wear out at 150km and became useless at 250km. However, this is the second GTX 4 Mid that I have because the options in this category are limited

  Having worn the second edition for over 10 years and many other Salomon shoes (including the forces series), I will say the following:
  On the positive side:
  They are comfortable, stylish, and you feel like you can wear them for hours. The sole is decent, it doesn't slip much, but I can't comment on its durability yet.
  On the negative side:
  The quality is not as expected. It reminds me of a cheaper shoe. The laces indeed don't stay in place.
  Conclusion:
  I haven't used it extensively outdoors, so I would say it's a decent boot, inferior to previous editions, and not worth the money it costs at retail since there are better options at that price range. For the €90 I got it on sale, it's fine.

  From the moment companies impose the trend of mobile phones, that is, constantly releasing the same model in a new version, at some point they would lose their character.
  No relation to the older ones. Small stylistic differences every year brought poor quality materials to this model. The company could have stability in design and materials with minimal technological improvements.
  Luckily, I have in good condition the boots I bought 5 years ago.

  After 20 years of using Salomon shoes and wearing over 10 different models from this company, I have the following to say.

  1. Another pair of Salomon boots with UNACCEPTABLE laces, which come undone immediately and need to be replaced before even wearing the shoe. I had the exact same experience with the expensive Cosmic GTX (no longer available as a code). Honestly, I don't know what kind of nonsense they are doing with the laces at Salomon.

  2. It is now known that ALL companies have significantly reduced the quality of their products. It's the same in all industries. But... opening a box of new Salomon shoes and finding a 1980s sports sock is ridiculous. For the first time in my life, I bought Salomon shoes that don't smell like Salomon but like cheap plastic sports shoes. I had experienced this before in 2015 with Asics Fuji and couldn't believe that this smell still exists in shoes. And now Salomon has brought back this smell.

  3. Quite lightweight and comfortable, with satisfactory grip on mixed terrains, without hurting the ankle if the laces are tightened too much.

  4. It is a given that the GORE-TEX membrane will eventually lose its waterproof ability. If the outer sole of the shoe withstands until this happens, then you will have a cute little boot for some time, but not waterproof. And the quality of the sole has significantly decreased from Salomon. I have noticed this in the XA 3D Ultra, for the past 5 years, that the sole wears out much faster than before. It lasts at most one year.

  Here... we will see. This is a different sole that resembles the one on the X Wild 2. We shall see.

  In summary... a very nice and impressive shoe for someone who is not familiar, but for a Salomon enthusiast... mediocre.
