I use it for cold coffee and so far it doesn't alter the taste at all and it's refreshing (which I find pleasant). The brush is definitely helpful but of course it's not enough for proper cleaning if there are residues inside. It has already been washed twice in the dishwasher and it hasn't suffered any damage. I have previously purchased another set from a well-known chain of stores at double the price and there is no difference.
