Cardamom is a plant native to South-Southeast Asia, with Guatemala being the largest producer in the world. The variety Elettaria cardamomum originates from the Malabar coast in Kerala, India, and has been transferred to Guatemala, where it is grown under ideal conditions. Its flavor is aromatic and resinous, with hints of mint.
It is used in savory and sweet dishes, as well as for making spicy tea, which is naturally caffeine-free. It pairs well with poultry, red meat, lentils, rice, and spicy foods, as well as with other spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. It is also great for baked goods.
