  Certainly, as many people say here and on foreign websites, it is a solera rum with moderate to low aging, like 95% of the market, but with the difference that this is one of the most balanced and mysterious solera flavors with a unique character compared to its category. Also, quality does not depend only on aging time, as most people parrot. Quality depends on different types of aging and many other factors, and Zacapa has done an excellent job overall and in the final result. The price should be lower, but this applies to 90% of rum production in the world, almost all brands are overpriced, so I don't understand why Zacapa is bothering. Because it is very well-known?

  However, the only rums that stand up to or even surpass it in the price category of 60 euros and below are: El Dorado 15 (perhaps the best and the new version probably has no added sugar, yet it leaves sweetness, the master blender is a maestro to achieve this, also not solera, excellent for its quality), Plantation XO (exotic-fruity, balanced, beautiful aging from different barrels, also solera but quality for this category), Quorhum 23 (quality for its price, balanced, touch of bourbon, orange peel, pepper-spices, tobacco, and dark chocolate, beautiful character!!), Papas Pilar Bourbon Casck Finish (quite similar to Zacapa, slightly sweeter, fruity, and bourbon touch, similar types of aging), Mount Gay XO new version (very similar to Plantation XO, similar aging and quality, good price and alternative, no sugar but leaves sweetness, very good job, also solera), Centenario 20 (from the sweet options like Diplomatico (green bottle), Millonario 15, Dos Maderas PX 5+5 & Bumbu Original, this is the best and highest quality), and (outside Greece) Brugal Leyenda (sweet and fruity, rich flavor, moderate aging), Opthimus 21 (balanced, fruity, moderate aging), and Ophyum 23 (similar to Plantation XO but spicier and with an orange peel touch).

  Definitely, you pay for the name and not the quality. It's a good rum but it's not worth its money and certainly not aged as it claims, neither 6 to 23 years nor even 2-3 years. It's now just a commercial product that I won't buy again.

  The taste is subjective for everyone. Personally, it gives me a sweeter sensation initially. Definitely better for me than rum in the range of 20-40€ (which usually goes hand in hand with aging). I chose to try it after searching on various websites in Greece and abroad, and it is considered one of the good rums in this range. If you are willing to splurge, go for the XO from the same company or something like Ron Diplomatico Ambassador.
