What is a cardioid condenser?

A condenser microphone like the AT2020 contains a thin diaphragm that captures the vibrations of the sounds you want to record. This diaphragm is so thin that it requires power through the XLR cable, ensuring that every aspect of your instrument or voice is captured with clear detail.

Audio-Technica's cardioid microphones have heart - metaphorically and literally - thanks to the shape of the sound capture area. Cardioid microphones capture what is in front of them in a rough heart shape, from the top of the sound capture at the front of the microphone to the graded capture at the sides. This cardioid pattern enhances the isolation of any desired sound source for rich and accurate recording.* The XLR cable is sold separately.

    I believe it is very good for a professional microphone at such a budget price. I have it on my Focusrite Scarlett and I have absolutely no problems. It should be noted that it requires an external sound card because it needs 48V. I really liked that I don't have any problems with consonants (like s, ts, etc.). Audio Technica is very reliable (I also have the M40x)!

    I was the owner of a Marantz USB microphone but when it was time to change microphone, the Audio Technica AT2020 surprised me as being much better than any microphone worth 90-150€. It doesn't come with XLR, so make sure to get one, and since it is an active microphone, it requires power, so make sure to also get an audio amplifier. I recommend the UMC22 U-Phoria by Behringer, which together with a cable will cost you a total of 150€
