A tarp is a large sheet of flexible, water-resistant or waterproof material, often made from plastics like polyethylene PE, PVC fabric, or less frequently from canvas or polyester coated with polyurethane. In some areas, tarps are colloquially referred to as linchage or tents. They are often sold in rectangular sheets, in standardized sizes ready with eyelets or in roll packaging.
The quality and lifespan of the tarp depend on its thickness, which is measured by the weight per square meter (gr/m²).
Tarps weighing 450-650-800-1100 gr/m2 are usually made from PVC and have a lifespan of several years, used in constructions that can withstand strong winds and possess high mechanical strength.
The durability of tarps weighing 60-120 gr/m² has an expected lifespan of up to 18 months depending on weather conditions. Tarps weighing from 190-200 gr/m² have an expected lifespan of 12-24 months. The 250gr/m2 tarp has an expected lifespan of 24-36 months depending on weather conditions.
