Dates are the fruit of the palm tree Phoenix dactylifera L., also known as the date palm. They are a fruit that has been consumed since ancient times, particularly in the regions of Mesopotamia. Today, their production is continuously increasing, with countries such as Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq being the leading producers of dates worldwide.

Dates consist of approximately 70% natural sugars, mainly fructose and glucose. The remaining 30% is made up of proteins, dietary fibers, and various micronutrients such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. They are a source of dietary fibers, primarily insoluble.

Traditionally, dates have been used for medicinal purposes in various cultures. Thanks to their rich nutritional value, their usefulness is confirmed by a multitude of studies.
