Description

Just learning that your mom is marrying a wealthy guy you don't know is enough to make any eighteen-year-old freak out. But for RJ Shaw, the bad news doesn't stop there: he's being sent off to Sandover Academy, a prep school to finish his last year of high school. And if there's one place where a misfit hacker like RJ doesn't belong, it's a lush boarding school for rich delinquents. There's no point in trying to get along with anyone there. That is, until he meets Sloane Trescott in the woods on the outskirts of the school. Gorgeous and with a sharp tongue, Sloane is a real challenge! But she's the one girl RJ is forbidden to touch. She's the headmaster's daughter! Luckily, RJ doesn't believe in rules. Of course, Sloane has vowed not to get involved with any boy this year, but he's determined to win her over, even if it costs him his life—assuming her ex, who rules the school and is treated like a king, doesn't kill him first. Fortunately, RJ unintentionally makes a few friends. His newly acquired stepbrother, Fen, a handsome boy with self-destructive tendencies. Lawson, the self-proclaimed agent of chaos. And Silas, the classic good guy, who can't possibly be as good as he seems. If RJ wants to survive at Sandover and win Sloane's heart, he'll definitely need to find a way to use all the secrets the school's walls hold to his advantage…

Misfit is the first book in the Prep series by the beloved author Elle Kennedy. In this book, we follow our protagonists through multiple POVs in a preparatory school for children from wealthy families who have committed some offense and are sent there to complete their education and have a chance at university without too many questions being asked. In this school, the infamous siblings Fen and RJ are sent after their parents' tumultuous marriage. RJ, a brilliant boy in his final year, has changed many schools and always manages to get expelled while having amazing hacking skills and being a loner because no one is worth his time. However, at Sandover Academy, he meets the "elusive" and cynical Sloan, who piques his interest. The only problem: she is the principal's daughter whom he must not touch! Yet this is yet another puzzle to solve, a sweet and hot challenge! And there begins a relationship with rising temperatures while around them, enmities and friendships are formed with the rest of the group.
I have loved this particular author since the Off Campus series and had very high expectations for this book! I liked seeing the different characters unfold, and as a general idea, it was a clever and nice book. However, since it "touches" on quite a few genres and the multiple POVs ultimately confused me a bit, I missed the plot between Sloan and RJ. It feels like the Elite series, and I found many things to love! On the negative side, I will mention something I didn't expect from Elle Kennedy, which is the love scenes and how she portrayed the female characters as shallow and superficial like teenage boys, if you understand what I mean. But if I overlook that, it was a good high-school romance with plenty of drama and wonderful friendships!
