Amazing shoe for running in the mountains and on rough terrain in general. Its grip is unique. It's not very fast but very cushioned. In terms of durability, it's average to good.
Compared to the Speedgoat 6, it is more comfortable and softer. It is suitable for those who land with the whole foot. The 6 has a more aggressive and stiff sole with landing from the middle and front. The Vibram is worth every penny. I have done around 300 km and it is like new.
I would give it a 4.5/5 if I had the option because I believe there are 1-2 points that need improvement. I run occasionally, preferably on trails/mountains, but the frequency and duration are not significant. I recently got them and have run 32km so far.
Overall, it's an excellent shoe and that explains why it's so popular. The number one feature is the comfort and shock absorption provided by the ample sole. It's ideal for someone who doesn't handle a lot of impact on their knees. Additionally, the sole is very wide, resulting in a stable grip on uneven terrain, which is particularly useful when tired. The first time I ran in them, I was impressed by how little I had to pay attention to my foot placement and how little the terrain's texture affected my foot. Another major positive is the Vibram outsole, which provides excellent traction even on loose or wet rocks. Especially on downhill sections, where I struggle due to inexperience, the shoe gives great confidence. The upper part is made of a lightweight breathable fabric with some elasticity, so the overall fit is very comfortable. The toe is covered with a harder material to protect against rocks, etc. The sizing is normal. The weight is impressive compared to the volume of the sole; by looking at it, you would expect something heavier.
Now, onto the negatives. I feel that the heel doesn't "lock" as well as in my previous shoes. I don't feel it lifting or moving inside the shoe, but it has a somewhat vague sensation. The other negative is that the flexible material on the upper part seems to "open up" during running, so I have to tighten the laces a bit after a few kilometers. Overall, I feel like I have to be a bit more meticulous with the lacing in order to have a foot that is both stable and comfortable. The thickness and width of the sole, which make them so comfortable and stable, sacrifice the sense of immediacy and precision that more conventional shoes have, so if someone prefers to feel the ground under their feet, they might not like the Speedgoat.
It's too early to comment on durability, but the upper part is less reinforced compared to other models. We will also see how long the outer sole lasts; usually, anything with good traction wears out faster.
Simply amazing... I run in the mountains, they protect from rocks, gravel, etc., while also being flexible. The best you can get. I also tried the Asics Trabucco, but these are softer and provide more protection, and when you run on technical terrain, you want all the protection you can have.
I haven't worn them on the mountain yet, but at first glance, what a great pair of shoes I bought!
Very good shoes for amateur mountain and off-road runners in general. A good choice for all-around running.
They are more sensitive than the speedgoat 4.
On intense rocky terrain that I tried them on, I felt pressure on my feet, something I never felt with the previous ones.
They are more comfortable, they don't require much breaking in. They are more flexible.
Of course, they are shoes that don't strain your feet after intense training. They provide maximum protection for the trail.
Despite the stack height, it is very difficult for your foot to roll over.
Now, regarding durability, I must say that in general, the Vibram sole has excellent grip and is expected to wear out in about eight months if training is done on very rocky terrain or includes sections of pavement or asphalt.

It has great grip, a velvety feel, and is comfortable even for long distances. It has good energy return, fastening, and breathability. Personally, I like that it is soft and protects my foot, but if you prefer to feel the terrain and have more feedback on what you're stepping on, it may not be for you. However, the shoe is still very stable despite being soft, thanks to its wide platform.
Owner of the speedgoat 4, with the best impressions. The HOKA speedgoat 5 continues the tradition of comfort and top-quality sole. Very correctly, the shoe is more comfortable in the front with more room for the toes. Just be careful with the size. In the speedgoat 4, I wear size 45/1/3, but in the speedgoat 5, I went for size 44/2/3 for a better fit while running. The quality of materials is very good, and I was satisfied with the first kilometers on the mountain. The good tradition of HOKA speedgoat continues.
I am a woman and I can't find my size in women's shoes. That's why I go for a men's size 43 1/3. I wear them for hiking in the mountains. They are very lightweight and don't hurt me anywhere.

I bought these specifically for mountain running, as a replacement for the Akasha. The reason is that the Akasha was causing fatigue after a certain point, which doesn't happen with the SG. The major (even huge) difference compared to the previous model is the upper part, which is now more flexible and doesn't squeeze the foot when it starts to swell after many kilometers.
It requires a lot of attention to size because if it's not the right shoe, it won't have a good fit. For example, I wear size 44 2/3 in all HOKA shoes, but I made the bright idea to get the SG5 in size 45 1/3. Big mistake. Although I had enough space in the toe area, I never managed to have the ideal lock down. I sold them and bought the same shoe again in my regular size. It was truly a different shoe. So, be careful with the size, get your regular size as it has enough space in the front.

Negatives:
- Generally, I don't see them lasting for more than 500km at most. The sole wears out easily.
- It might bother you around the ankle because it's somewhat high compared to the previous model.
- The back part, which resembles the Clifton, collects small rocks (I wonder why they put such a heel on a trail shoe).
There are many things said about HOKA and its foam technology, how it has fallen behind, and so on. But I wouldn't change it for anything, neither on the road nor in the mountains.
The truth is, I want to give it a 4.5 rating, but Scrooge doesn't have that option. So, I will go with 4 instead of 5, which would be an exaggeration.
