Maybe 3 stars may be too strict, but even 4 stars would show excessive leniency. Its real rating is around 70/100. Initially, the graphics are exceptional. It was released in 2015 at the beginning of the PS4 generation and will definitely remain until the end. This is the only point where the game utilizes its full potential. When it was released, it was promoted as an action 3rd person shooter in which the existence of werewolves, vampires, and the supernatural, Jack the Ripper and Tesla in a dark Victorian London seemed to be key. Seeing all these elements and the fantastic trailers that were released, there was tremendous excitement that we would see a game worthy of perhaps the best of all time. In the end, the result is simply mediocre. Too many quick time events that kill the atmosphere of the game and the player's mood. Too many cutscenes, often 3 in a row, which simply force you to put down the controller. The game is too short, 6-7 hours for the elements it tries to convey, and it becomes even worse when you consider that half of it is cutscenes (which also cannot be skipped). The story, while having the potential to impress, unfortunately does not. In such a short period of time, there are so many characters that ultimately remain indifferent to almost all of them. While the ending is even more disappointing than the gameplay.
There is a plethora of weapons, but almost all sound and feel the same since they do all the work for you. The aiming system is very bad as everything goes headshot without aiming specifically. The game's ease is terrifying, even on the highest difficulty (on the others, it almost plays itself), so it fails in this game as well because you can't see a big difference. The game forces you to use stealth quite often, but there are no proper foundations for it. Besides, even in this, they use QTE and you have to press the button at the right moment (annoying), and the AI is very bad. If you're not right in front of them and within a distance of 5 meters max, they don't notice you. You can be behind them and go back and forth and they will never notice anything. In the bad system, I have to mention the movement of everyone in every battle. Your allies are decorative and the enemies, when you go against them, instead of shooting you, go right and left. Also, you move very slowly, which makes you think about how much smaller the whole experience would be if you removed this factor. Furthermore, while the story revolves around a search, the puzzles that exist are ridiculous and repetitive. Finally, the few boss fights are disappointing as you always end up in a QTE and have to press a series of buttons.
In summary, the game has several issues in every aspect. It has been several years since it was released and there is no chance of any DLC or expansion that will give depth to the story or work on the existing game. It is clear that due to time pressure, it was not released complete on the market. Despite its problems, due to its graphics, unique story, and perhaps its ease, there are many who were satisfied with this particular title. The most important thing is the expectations one has when starting it. The safe option is to rent it for a week or to borrow it from a friend, otherwise buy it for a maximum of 20 euros, taking into consideration all the above.
