The Tamron 17-50mm f/4 Di III VXD lens meets video and photography needs with a unique focal length range. It includes an ultra-wide 17mm position ideal for large visual fields, interior settings, and architectural subjects, as well as for close-range vlog recording. The range extends to 50mm, offering a normal-length field of view suitable for portraits and closer perspectives of everyday subjects.
It has impressive performance at close distances, with a minimum focusing distance of 7.5" at the wide end and 11.8" at the long end, for working with close subjects. This versatile range is supported by a constant maximum aperture of f/4, enhancing portability and making it an ideal travel lens.
The lens design is suitable for multimedia use, featuring a VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor for fast and quiet autofocus performance. It also has internal zoom and internal focusing design, keeping the overall length unchanged during use, providing more intuitive handling that is easy to balance with a gimbal stabilizer.
The 17-50mm has a moisture-resistant design with a front fluorine coating that facilitates cleaning. It uses 67mm filters, like most other Tamron mirrorless lenses, and is compatible with Tamron Lens Utility software to optimize lens performance according to your needs.

Purchased a few days ago for the a74. The build quality is mediocre, which is why it is very lightweight. The sharpness from 17 to 50 at f5.6 performs exceptionally well, 100% in the center and 90% in the corners. At f4, it is sharp in the center but a bit soft in the corners, which is understandable with such a wide aperture. Distortion is noticeable at 17 (not prohibitive if you are stable and not making left-right movements), but it's okay at 20. It is an ideal lens for video, you can keep it permanently on the camera and if you want a little telephoto, you can crop the sensor and get a 75mm equivalent. 4 stars for the type c port, which lacks any protective rubber, allowing dust and water to enter. You have to put some tape to protect it. A huge plus is the 5-year warranty provided by Tamron. It is worth the money, as it covers a range of 17 to 50, allowing you to do almost everything. For people shooting wedding and baptism videos, it is amazing, as it covers all the needs. And for baptism in a pool, you won't lose the baby if you need to get close.
