The Anubias barteri var. nana is a small, attractive plant that thrives in all conditions. It is native to Cameroon and will reach heights of 5-10 cm. The rhizome can be 10-15 cm or more. It grows slowly, and the leaves can survive for several years, giving slow-growing algae the chance to settle. The best results are achieved by planting in stone or tree roots. Fishing line can be used to attach the plant until it stabilizes. If planted at the bottom, the rhizome should not be covered as it tends to rot.

It often flowers underwater and will thrive in shaded areas where other plants will not. It is not eaten by herbivorous fish.
