Description

Diagnostic Test that detects specific levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in a urine sample and displays results within 3 minutes.

What is the function of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in women?

Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. During the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle, FSH stimulates the production of estradiol by the follicle. Mid-cycle, the increase in levels of FSH and luteinizing hormone (LH) is followed by ovulation. During menopause, the ovaries cease to function, resulting in increased levels of FSH.

Why would a woman want to determine her levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)?

  • To identify the cause of infertility
  • To determine if there is an issue with ovarian function
  • To identify the cause of irregular periods or amenorrhea
  • To confirm the onset of menopause or perimenopause.

What should I be aware of when using this test?

This test can determine whether the follicle-stimulating hormone detected in the urine sample is at a specific level (above or below it). It cannot determine the exact levels of FSH in the body at the time of sampling nor can it be the sole criterion for diagnosing a specific health condition. You should share the results with your doctor who is the only one qualified to interpret the results considering multiple factors.
