It is exactly like all the commercial spirals and identical to the spirals we find in spiral notebooks from supermarkets and bookstores.
I bought these: 6.4mm, 8mm, 9.5mm, 11.1mm, 12.7mm, 14.3mm, 15.9mm, 19mm, 22.2mm
All are the same in horizontal size (distance and size of the hole in the paper), just for example, the 11.1mm will hold more sheets than the 8mm, but the holes in the paper for both will be exactly the same in size and distance between them.
HOWEVER, the 19mm and 22mm are different; they are for larger holes, and so I cannot use them with the binder that makes holes in the sheets because that one makes standard holes.
Obviously, all the large ones from 19mm and above have a larger distance and require a bigger hole in the paper. I don't know exactly from which size they start being larger, for example, I haven't bought the 18mm to check it; the largest I checked and worked is the 15.9mm.
The machine I use to make the regular holes is this:
