The Prime Minister Koryzis 'commits suicide' as the Germans approach. He managed to plant two bullets straight into his heart by himself. Alexander enlists 20,000 mules and 5,000 camels to transport the gold and silver of the Persians. Students are brutally beaten by the gendarmerie in front of Otto and Amalia at the Field of Mars, because they wore hats from Sifnos on their heads. The most beautiful courtesan of antiquity, Phryne, undresses in front of her elderly judges. They acquit her immediately. Angelos Sikelianos, in a ravine of Parnassus, opens a philosophical discussion with the criminal bandit Monastiriotis and converts him to the Delphic Idea. Furious Souliotes invade the room of the dying Byron in Missolonghi, demanding he pay their wages while the lord is coughing up blood. A barefoot beggar boy from Siteia is taken in by a monk to save him from starving to death. Sixty years later, he is elected Pope. On the dock of Piraeus, a merchant from Syracuse rubs the gold coins of an Ionian on a touchstone to see if they are counterfeit. The Church excommunicates gamblers and drinkers because, instead of fighting against the Turks, they spend their days and nights in the taverns of Tripolitsa. Rozou, the greatest political hooligan in Greek history, turns the parliament upside down, cursing gods and demons, as well as Prime Minister Trikoupis. Schliemann donates the treasure of Troy to Greece, but the responsible minister sends him away 'along with his little pots'. Rare drops of Greek history that explain much about our current situation. I am looking forward to reading the next issue! I read about events that I had no idea could have happened. Very good book. I recommend it
Quite interesting, nice little stories. However, the previous 2 of the series were more interesting
Simple and understandable to get a taste of the historical events it describes. I would give at least one more star if sexist comments were missing, such as "maybe medicine should finally do what Sofia and so many women throughout the centuries have chosen to do, to at least appear honorable."
Quite good to learn condensed certain historical events.
