A career filled with the work of one of the greatest photographers of music and black culture, Dennis Morris. His photographic adventure on the reggae and punk scene of the 1970s laid the foundation for a six-year career. It all started with Bob Marley: Morris photographed Marley in his teens, skipping school, and captured many moments of his tour that paved the way for him as a music photographer. He later became the official photographer of the Sex Pistols and collaborated with John Lydon for Public Image Limited, taking on the role of artistic director and designer, while also creating iconic images for the band.

He documented the greats of reggae and roots music, from Lee 'Scratch' Perry to Toots and Jimmy Cliff, developing friendships with many artists. His documentary and street photography, rooted in his experiences as a black teenager in 1970s Britain, offer us visionary works that explore race, politics, and cultural identity. From miners' strikes to squat protests, from civil rights organizations to pop-up studio photos, his work is a confrontation with his new home, capturing eccentricity and individual spirits with his camera.

Curated by Laurie Hurwitz, this book consists of two electrifying parts: the first analyzes Morris's perspective on race, culture, and identity in 1970s Britain, while the second brims with encounters with legendary music artists such as Patti Smith, Gregory Isaacs, The Stone Roses, and Radiohead. With contributions from agnès B and Sean O’Hagan, the book will thrill photography and music enthusiasts. It includes unpublished images and is supported by an international exhibition tour that presents Morris's influential work in depth for the first time.
