Description
In the midst of lost certainties, there is no room for doubt. As the forces of the anti-democratic world outside of Europe strengthen and the socio-economic model of extreme marketization is established within the community, the European, a place of democratic social organization par excellence, is shrinking. The expansion of democracy from politics to the economy, "an incomplete program that fascism fully abolished," as Polanyi points out, continues to be suspended.
Not long before the pandemic crisis and the invasion of Ukraine, the interpretation of the crisis in the common currency zone and its management seemed to have determined the process of European integration on a specific trajectory of development, dictating a specific way of social organization. This commitment, so palpable in Greece, is the subject of this monograph. Beyond the framework of a conjunctural crisis in the global economy, beyond the framework of the known perennial imperfections of the European construction or the perennial pathologies of our country, the mechanism of this commitment, its form, intensity, and consequences, the relevant resistances and the prospects it now sets in motion are identified, highlighted, and interpreted in eleven chapters.
