Description

The greatest historical research ever conducted on Aris Velouchiotis.

Wherever he went, I went.
I had to see the places where he acted and hear from the people who knew him and lived with him. Fortunately, in the early 1970s, when I began the research, I managed to meet most of those who adored or hated him, who fought against him or were his comrades. Thus, many of his characteristics, behaviors, and exact phrases, which were passed down orally like folk songs, were preserved. And I was lucky to have great guides in every place. It's one thing to go searching and another to be guided to the first guerrilla hideout of Parnassos by captains Periklis and Nikiforos. It's one thing to gaze at the mountain from afar and another to have the black-capped Katsantonis show you the passages of Chelidona.

(Dionysis Charitopoulos)

It is known that Dionysis Charitopoulos for many years gathered and mainly cross-referenced anything concerning Aris from a vast bibliography, from some not very accessible archives, from endless hours of interviews with hundreds of guerrillas, captains, black-caps, officers, and villagers, and followed his traces from mountain to mountain.

The result is this volume on the mythical figure of Aris. Aris Velouchiotis, who for the Italians and Germans was a wanted guerrilla leader. For the English, a war criminal. For the leadership of the Greek conservative faction, a butcher and bandit. For the leadership of the Communist Party of Greece, a denounced provocateur and traitor.

Charitopoulos proves that he is the man who created the largest volunteer army in Greek history and a Free Greece within enslaved Europe.

The work in its previous editions (all sold out) has emerged as one of the top-selling historical works. The volume from "Topos," in the new, revised edition by the author, comes to meet the demand of new readers who were unable to acquire this valuable work from previous editions.
