Description
The Limnobium laevigatum is an aquarium plant from tissue culture in a closed cup.
Native to South America, it is an ornamental floating plant particularly suitable for open aquariums. It has a height of 1-5 cm and leaf widths of 5-15 cm.
It provides shelter for gouramis and other surface fish, as its fine, long roots are ideal for these species. If there are sufficient nutrients in the water and the light intensity is good, new leaves will appear above the water surface. It may be necessary to remove some leaves to ensure that the plants below still receive some light.
When the level of nutrients in the water decreases, its growth will slow down, making it an excellent indicator of the available nutrients.
