The clip is an ideal add-on for the speaker for outings. This is how it is advertised, and this is paradoxically the main reason I chose it. The sound for the money and the watts is satisfactory. Overall, it is a very high-quality construction. A significant drawback is that the 4 does not have the capability to connect with other speakers for stereo sound via JBL Auracast. This capability is available in models 5, 6, etc. Not in the 4. Finally, for those interested, protective "cases" are also available on the market. If you intend to use it for the beach (as I do), I suggest you buy one of those for its transport (even though it is supposed to withstand sand, moisture, etc.).

This is the second one I bought because I have it in a small inflatable and it was convenient for me, what didn't work for me is the clip that I trusted but in a vibration/wave it opened.. and it went like a weight into the water.. in short, it DOES NOT float at all, be careful
