In what kind of world will we live? What era is dawning before us? We are experiencing the swan song of a global order and the beginning of a new macro-historical cycle.

Prompted by the war in Ukraine and the pandemic crisis, the book outlines the formation of a new planetary order and deals with the completion of three different and partially overlapping historical cycles:

• the post-Cold War order (1991-)
• the post-war world (1945-)
• a great era of human history (19th century-), the Age of Great Divergence.

By the middle of the 21st century, with the milestone year of 2037, the three historical cycles that defined the orders, the world, and the era of the last two centuries will have been completed: the great divergence will have closed.

From history to political geography, from the completion of the American hegemonic period to the return of Asia, from technology to demography, and from modernity to post-secularization, the book attempts an anatomy of long-term developments, aiming to serve as a tool for understanding the world-historical changes taking place at the threshold of the end of an era and the beginning of a new macro-historical cycle.
