Two strangers threaten Paraschos with a knife and a gun. They have kidnapped his daughter and demand that his son release the komitadji Asan Tano. In parallel time, grandfather Antipas lives with the memory of the enigmatic Roxani. The pursuit of happiness, the little that fills a life, the transformation of a city, the dreams and illusions of three generations, who proceed as their steps are determined by women – wives, lovers, mothers, daughters, sisters... And all have as a backdrop the Babylon of tribes and languages and, in general, the shocking history of Thessaloniki from the late 19th century to the first two decades of the 20th, with memories completing a cycle of ninety-nine years. The heroes mingle with tough guys, adventurers, and brotherly friends, while in the foreground alternate gangs, balls, café chantant, brothels, prostitutes, spies, bombings, fires... Sometimes they see the stars sparkle, sometimes they are shaken on the cobblestones of life, and sometimes they burn in the furnace of revenge, betrayal, morals, loss, hatred, nationalism, money, and also in the frantic dance of love.
