Description

If the Theater is the place where the eternal paradigm of myths is visualized, and Music is the way in which the human converges into the ineffable universal harmony, then Opera is perhaps the greatest conjunction of these two into a unique Art that aims to bridge the finite with the sublime and the true. At least, this was the perception of the great German composer Richard Wagner, who composed his works with the aim of initiating the art-loving public into the timeless and the archetypal. The musical drama of Parsifal, perhaps the greatest opera written after the famous Ring of the Nibelung, inspired by the medieval Arthurian literature and Wagner's own philosophical pursuits, depicts the hero's journey for the salvation of his soul, through the mysteries of the Grail, which bears the power of reuniting the relationship between man and the divine. The libretto of the epic opera is translated and prefaced by Fotis Papathanasiou. The edition is accompanied by rare engravings and photographs of the era.
