The lens offers a stepping motor focusing system, which provides quiet and smooth focusing performance, suitable for both photos and videos. The adjustable control ring can be programmed to facilitate the adjustment of various camera and exposure settings.

This Special Edition version of the Z 40mm f/2 lens features a retro design with curves on the lens body, a contrasting silver ring, and a vintage NIKKOR logo that mimics the appearance of lenses used on classic Nikon FM cameras.
