In the international bestseller When the Body Says No, Gabor Maté explains what hidden stress is, how it leads to a series of diseases – and, most importantly, how we can heal. Can a person literally die from loneliness? Are repressed emotions connected to Alzheimer's? Is there such a thing as a "cancer personality"?
Modern scientific findings confirm ancient wisdom: emotions critically affect our health. Repressed emotions cause stress, which in turn is the root cause of many ailments.
Dr. Gabor Maté is an expert on trauma, addictions, and stress. In this work, he draws on groundbreaking research as well as the true stories of his patients to examine the role hidden stress plays in the onset of a series of diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, cancer, and a range of autoimmune conditions. Additionally, the author goes a step further by presenting the 7 Rules of Healing, which guide us from the stage of Acceptance to that of Autonomy.
With compassion and wisdom, in this book Gabor Maté brings the mind-body connection back to the core of medicine and shows us how to protect our health.

Nice book, a bit difficult to understand but very enlightening. It repeats the topics it narrates in several places and becomes tiring.
Very nice book, I recommend it because it will make you reconsider many things about life.
Very interesting book!!! Simple, understandable writing. I just had a lot of difficulty - mainly psychologically - reading it quickly. When I hold it in my hands, it captivates me. The flow of the stories and the experiences of the patients makes you distance yourself and see your thoughts and life from a different perspective. Those who have been ill or have a close person with health issues will find this journey difficult; I think it stressed me out too. Nevertheless, I want to gift it to loved ones because I believe it opens the eyes to the unknown and might "prevent" health issues
100% worth it
It keeps you alert, and it talks about things that we all go through, consciously or unconsciously.
scientific approach mainly, it is not read casually, a bit heavy due to the unpleasant stories of the patients it describes but I consider it very very useful
at least excellent! It helped me to zoom out and zoom in on many chapters of my thinking! I gave it a hug when I reached the end as it deserves! I highly recommend it!
Excellent book, it explains in an understandable way the interaction of emotions with bodily functions as well as patterns that seem to contribute to the development of autoimmune diseases. I consider it a 101 book for understanding the mechanism of stress in our body.
Those who have suffered understand the content. The others will understand it when it is already too late.
Wonderful book!! Analytical approach, easy to read, quality translation and of course the author is a favorite!
A book that helps us unravel our psychological profile and understand the symptoms of stress and anxiety on our body... The presentation of the book is original, but I think it often reaches the limits of tedium... The scientific tone and some medical terminology used by the author may be a bit difficult for the average reader to understand.
If you are someone with anxiety disorders or in a phase where you are trying to manage difficult situations, then I would recommend reading it either at a time when your mind is more calm or reading it with courage. It speaks in a very realistic and raw way about how our body reacts to stress and how much we manage to reduce it, so that it doesn't explode at the expense of our body.
Although when I picked it up to read it, I finished 150 pages in 2 hours, there were points where it tired me, I struggled, I didn't want anymore. It may be triggering for people who have gone through/are going through or someone close to them has gone through/is going through cancer.
It is nice, it brings you face to face with reality.
A book that everyone should read.
Based on official research, the importance of psychology for everyday survival is revealed.
