Compact telephoto lens that brings you closer to the action. The Image Stabilizer prevents blurring caused by accidental camera movement. STM technology provides smooth, silent focusing during movie shooting.
Advantages
Image stabilizer that reduces blur due to camera shake
Get closer to distant subjects, such as wildlife and sports
Practical design that ensures top image quality
Lightweight and compact, so you can take it anywhere
Smooth, silent STM focusing when shooting movies
Compact, Powerful Telephoto Zoom Lens
The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM brings you closer to the action, making it an ideal companion to the standard 18-55mm zoom lens of the EOS, and perfect for capturing wildlife, sports events, and travel photos.
It combines high telephoto performance with exceptional image quality and intuitive handling.
Optical Image Stabilizer
The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM features Canon's image stabilizer technology that ensures image sharpness. This technology allows you to use shutter speeds up to 3.5 stops slower than usual, while protecting against the effects of camera shake.
An ideal solution for low-light or high-zoom shots. Once panning motion is detected, stabilization is automatically disabled in the horizontal or vertical direction, contributing to the sense of speed when photographing moving subjects.
STM Technology
The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM features stepper motor (STM) technology for smooth and silent continuous focusing during video recording with EOS cameras, as well as fast, precise autofocus during photography.
Focusing with STM technology is so quiet that its sound is not picked up by the camera's microphone, ensuring that video soundtracks are free from unwanted distractions.
Top Image Quality
The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM uses a UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) lens element and Super Spectra lens coatings to deliver sharp and clear images with high contrast across the entire zoom range.
The seven-blade circular aperture enhances the quality in out-of-focus areas, making the subject stand out against the softly blurred background.
Designed for Stunning Photos
Thanks to the manual focus ring, you can adjust the focus quickly, easily, and accurately at any time, while the minimum focusing distance of 0.85m allows you to photograph small subjects. The non-rotating front element makes it easier to use filters.

This lens is a great upgrade from the kit 18-55mm usually provided with Canon crop cameras. While initially I had some concerns before purchasing it, because its construction is made of plastic, when it arrived in my hands I realized that it is a very well-made lens. The quality of the photos is improved compared to the kit lens and I have noticed that it focuses much better on objects, without any distortions as was common with the 18-55mm. The focal length of 55-250mm is satisfactory and quite impressive, especially in the first uses, as it is a big improvement from the 55mm that the kit lens reached. It is the best Value For Money crop lens, and I highly recommend it.
It is an amazing value for money and it is a lens that if I had to choose one lens to always have with me, it would be this one as it is incredibly user-friendly for outdoor photography, satisfactorily fast focusing, quite sharp, good colors, normal size and weight. If I have something negative to say, it is the build quality, it doesn't give the feeling that it will break but it has the same feeling as the kit lenses in entry-level DSLRs
I recently got him. I had to get him from the beginning ... I was unnecessarily bothered by similar lenses from third-party manufacturers with compatibility issues and back-front focus
I have been doing amateur photography for a year now. I bought the 4000d kit and after about seven months of use, it started displaying something slightly less than 1080p, around 720p. I didn't want to change the camera because it would be too expensive and it was a lens problem. I preferred this one and after a week of use, I can say that the photos are much clearer than with the 4000d lens. Stable autofocus and I really recommend it for those who didn't save money for a much better one and then get a lens like this.
The 55-250 may not be eye-catching, it may be plastic, it may be very cheap, but the quality of its photos possibly ranks it as the number one value for money lens. In many tests, it has been ranked among the top three sharpest lenses in the zoom lens category, surpassing many of the well-known 70-200 variable aperture lenses, with excellent sharpness from the center to the edges, minimal to nonexistent aberration and zero vignetting, and almost perfect clarity once we lower the aperture by one stop. It is said that the only sharper lens in Canon's range is the Canon 70-200 f4 L ii, which costs four times more. Personally, I use it on the 80D and I am completely satisfied. I believe you will never regret getting it, especially with its incredible price for the clean photos it captures. Just don't rely on it for night shots without properly lit subjects. On a scale of 0 to 10, the lens earns an 8.5 for cost-performance ratio. It is highly recommended if you need a highly satisfactory lens in terms of photo quality performance that won't break the bank.
Today (August 2020), a year and a half after its purchase, which cost 172 €, I see the price at 235 €. I wonder, does it get more expensive as it gets older? It seems like the plastics would get more expensive...
December 2020
The lens has reached 300 euros +!!!!!!!!!!!!!... it is now almost no longer a value for money lens and, of course, the mockery of commerce is starting to show. As soon as its price reaches 500 euros, I will put it up for auction. Now that's an investment!!!
September 2022
The lens continues to be excellent. Its price has risen to 340€... and for this, the "Russia" with its invasion of Ukraine is probably to blame. To be serious... I really can't understand how it's possible for a lens (which is not even a collector's item) to constantly become more expensive as it gets older. It is no longer value for money. However, it still delivers amazing clarity and photo quality!
I bought this lens here 2 months ago and I have formed an opinion about it.
In its positives:
• excessively fast auto focus
• very smooth zoom rotation
• more than satisfactory diameter
In its negatives:
• shots after 8 o'clock are impossible due to a small aperture range
• its construction, despite being compact, is entirely made of plastic
In conclusion, it is a necessary and useful lens to have with you because it offers many options due to its zoom, and let's not forget the price, which makes it a value for money
For the money it costs, the efficiency of this specific lens is excellent!!! It has a wide range with very good and silent AF. The IS also helps a lot!
It is a lens with very good sharpness in photos and relatively fast autofocus. It has a very wide zoom range and is quiet.
I consider it one of the most honest branded lenses for its price and I have been very satisfied with its performance.
