The side zipper is necessary for easy on and off, and the fit is just wide enough so that after a few hours of wearing, when the feet start to swell a bit, it still remains comfortable. I believe it will also be suitable for ladies with slightly wider feet. Additionally, it has a soft and warm lining, just enough to prevent the foot from sweating indoors.
