The fruit of acerola (Malpighia glabra) is one of the richest natural sources of vitamin C. The natives of South America traditionally used acerola to treat colds. The fruit of rose hips is another rich source of vitamin C. It also contains carotenoids (beta-carotene, lycopene, zeaxanthin, lutein, etc.), bioflavonoids, polyphenols, and pectins. The fruit of the species Rosa mosqueta, R. canina, R. rugosa is mainly used.
