First, there is no indication for the water you put in, so you add water randomly and then you have to close it to stop! So the coffee is approximate and doesn't stay hot! Second, the coffee smells like plastic! The froth milk, terrible!!
First of all, some of you are confused - from what I have noticed - between the R-970 and the R-974...... The 970 is the old model and the 974 is the newer one.
To get to the point... 3 stars because: It is indeed not that simple to operate and requires a bit of searching. But once you understand it, it's okay. IT REALLY ANNOYS ME that the espresso doesn't come out as hot as it should but lukewarm (very negative). It bothers me that when I make the coffee (I put in the container as much water as needed for one coffee) and then take out the container with the coffee, it is full of water inside (meaning it hasn't dried for those who know). The water tank is next to the French press filter, it has a small opening and requires quite a bit of care when filling.
I can't find a video on the internet about how it works, and the book that comes with the coffee maker explains it confusingly.
It doesn't have a temperature regulator for the espresso, and if you want a fredo cappuccino, as soon as you add the ice cubes, they melt.
In the end, you get what you pay for!!!!
I have had it for 2.5 years and it makes 2-3 coffees a day every day except for 15 days in August when I am away. Excellent French-style espresso and amazing milk froth. I bought it for €105 and I didn't expect it to last or make such good coffee. A gem.
Excellent coffee, both the French and the cappuccino. I removed the black plastic from the steam wand for frothing milk, and with one or two relatively simple videos, the froth comes out excellent (without any prior experience in making it). I recommend it.
Update: After about 4 months of use (about 1 coffee a day), the part that opens and closes the steam broke, resulting in continuous steam/water coming out of the frothing wand when the coffee maker is on. The service decided to replace the product, which was done by the store (with excellent service). Although I was apprehensive and didn't choose Rohnson again, I believe this one made better coffee than the De'Longhi Dedica that I have now.
