For everyday use, it is a bit heavy... for running, it is definitely not suitable at all... so I will go back to the topic of everyday use... it is not even good for posture... an okay shoe to go outside for a walk or to grab a coffee... nothing else.
The language has a grammatical mistake in all specific models throughout the length of the laces in folding from the inside and bothering you + the sock you are wearing is visible. In no case are they worth their money for the sole they offer!
First, let me mention that I bought them for €122 and literally as soon as I received them from the courier, I was notified that they are now €105, and now as I write this review (during black Friday week) they are priced at €96.6, so obviously I am a bit disappointed.
About the product now.
I use the shoes daily for walking 5-10km. They haven't caused me any discomfort at all. There is inner padding so they don't "hurt". Also, they have taken care of the back of the shoe, where we usually get rubbed or "hurt", to not have a hard structure, it is just fabric, so there is nothing to "hurt" you.
While they have all the specifications to be soft and "return energy" when you step, I feel that the Continental lining gives a sudden hardness to the step.
The selling point of the shoe, for me, was the Continental lining on the sole. I was hoping, without it being stated anywhere, that there would be better contact with wet ground, but unfortunately, it slips noticeably on both asphalt and sidewalks.
The size was the same as all the Adidas shoes I have bought in the past (Ultraboost, Supernova, Bounce).
They give height. They have a high heel.
If I could turn back time, I wouldn't buy them, especially for that price.
The solar glide has been the shoe I have been running races on the road and doing all the corresponding training for 10 years. I only run 2 races on asphalt per year, the AMA and the Athens half marathon. While ALL previous models were excellent, the Solarglide 5 is the first one that has caused me pain in two areas on BOTH feet. Also, for the first time, I got blisters during the AMA! After 10 consecutive marathons, 1300+ km of training per year, and over 100 official long-distance mountain races, I consider myself to have some experience in the shoe department.
Specifically, the main problem with the shoe is in the "tongue" under the laces, where the fabric is EXTREMELY POOR quality and not wide enough (POORLY DESIGNED), so it easily folds and almost always injures the top of the foot during the race/training.
The shoe is bulkier, and while in the first few kilometers you may feel like you're stepping better, it is ultimately heavier and creates blisters on the arch of the foot.
At the same time, the sole, especially at the back, has worn out a lot compared to the approximately 250 km that the shoe has (all on asphalt in marathon preparation kilometers).
"Conclusion": I will run the 2023 half marathon with last year's solarglide model and I have already bought a pair. Ten years of good shoes are not erased with a model that probably tried to play aesthetically with the competition rather than highlight the features that have classified it as a good choice for medium distances. I hope for a NOTICEABLE improvement in the next solarglide model.
Very good shoe for everyday running training. Although relatively heavy, it is comfortable, extremely stable, and durable.
I have been using it since 21/9/22 and have run 110 km (alternating with 3 other shoes). It is not overly soft, but it provides adequate cushioning. I weigh 85 kg and consider it particularly safe due to its stability and the excellent grip of the Continental sole. It is ideal for 5 km and 10 km runs with a pace of up to 5 min/km, and it feels really sturdy.
1st update:
I have exceeded 400 km of running, and the shoe is like new with an intact sole. There is only minor wear where the big toe touches, but there are no holes.
What has impressed me is their stability.
After a recent serious injury with a sprained left ankle, it was impossible for me to run with the other shoes in my rotation (Adidas adios 6, Asics novabladt 3, and Saucony endorphin speed3) without experiencing unbearable pain after training. With the Solar Glide 5, I continue to run cautiously with noticeably less pain at the end, which constantly decreases.
2nd update 4/11/23
I have now run 610 km (see screenshot Adidas running with all my shoes), and the shoe is almost new with an intact sole. Its behavior and cushioning have not changed at all. There is noticeable wear where the big toe touches, but there are still no holes (as seen in the photo).
Their main advantage is their stability, which allows me to continue running despite the sprained left ankle injury and knee problem since 6/5/2023. It is impossible for me to run with the other shoes in my rotation (Adidas adios 6, Asics novabladt 3, and Saucony endorphin speed3) without experiencing unbearable pain after training. With the Solar Glide 5, I continue to run cautiously with manageable pain after proper warm-up. Things are constantly improving, and I hope to fully recover.
I initially tried them in a store and then bought them as I found them at a very good price online. I use them for indoor exercise and light running in the city (not on tartan). It has quality materials for its price, the fit is very good and it is quite lightweight with very good shock absorption. Also, it is a very nice sports shoe.
Bought completely randomly, on a visit to the company's outlet mainly to pass the time. My eye fell directly on it and disappointment didn't take long to come when I saw that the largest available size was 48, since with the new data I wear size 49. In any case, due to the price, I gave it a chance. Because as I always say, when you put on a shoe, you should feel it like a sock, and that's exactly what I felt with this one. It fit so comfortably that it surprised me. I immediately thought, let me try on the pair and walk in them. I put them on and surprisingly I found that they are very comfortable and I also have space in the front. To be honest, I didn't want to buy it because I was negatively biased, but at such a price, it was an opportunity. I bought it and when I returned home, I wore it for more than an hour to make sure I didn't make a mistake with the size. Truly excellent fit and comfort.
The next step, and indeed the moment of truth, was the first workout. The shoes impressed me from the first 500 meters. I was running and I felt them pushing my foot uphill. Incredible response with every step. The great relief and joy came at 2 kilometers when I saw that my time per kilometer was more than half a minute less compared to the last workout. Due to the heat, I decided to take a short route even though I wanted to run more kilometers. So, for now, I can say that they are very comfortable and they are definitely worth the money I paid for them. In any case, the matter of shoes is completely subjective, so I hope I helped.
It is a very beautiful shoe with good design. The fabric of the shoe is not elastic but it fits very well. The sole is very similar to ultraboost with very good grip.
