An endless Division… Between two factions identified by the opposing side as "traitorous"… Which, however, constituted, until the tragic 1922 at least, expressions of different versions of Greek "revisionist/liberation" grand ideas and nationalism… A Division with a certainly person-centered background (the conflict of the "two Bs"), but also with social and ideological and economic goals and mentalities… A prolonged quasi-civil war, which left behind unimaginable and indelible hatreds… And which led to judicial murders of "traitors," i.e., political opponents. Completing my research for this book – the most laborious and, in my eyes, the most important of all I have written – I was left with the question recorded in his "war" Memoirs by Winston Churchill: "With so much that was done to them… And so much that [they themselves] did to themselves… How did the Greeks survive?"
