The windproof cap is made of stainless steel. It helps to deflect the air upwards when it moves horizontally and allows for down or updrafts to escape from the top or bottom of the cap, respectively. Inside and above the opening of the chimney, there is an inverted cone with insulation inside so that the outgoing flue gases hitting the cone are redirected outward without condensing. It also prevents water from entering during heavy rainfall.
