Description
The "unsubdued," the central character of the book, was a real person who experienced and recorded unknown until today parts of Greek history. His name in the text is a metonymy, as his descendants are still alive. All other public figures, military and political, appear with their real names in this thriller of war, espionage, love, and revelations about many unknown historical events. The book is the first standalone part of a trilogy focusing on the True story of the National Schism during and after World War I. Instead of dry historiography, literary narration in the style of Homer was deliberately chosen. Thus, by presenting personal elements of the lives of ordinary people as well as the fateful leaders of our country, both Greek and foreign, the political and historical climate of the era is fully rendered. The book's lengthy writing was based on the narratives and "Notebooks of the unsubdued," which were preserved by his descendants. Starting from these, more than 260 sources were researched, constituting one of the largest investigations on the subject. Used were: declassified secret documents from the foreign ministries of the USA, Russia, Germany, France, England, Italy, and the Vatican. Also, books, magazines, unused archives of the Hellenic Parliament, large and small private archives, newspapers, and other publications; all these documents are included in the book. The intense action begins in January 1916, in the brutally conquered by the "Allies" neutral Corfu. However, the revelations start from Crete, in 1816, with a detailed presentation of documents related to Eleftherios Venizelos, as well as other later elements concerning King Constantine I. The events take place in the historically unique Epirus, where the invented "Northern Epirus" with the still open "Northern Epirus issue," continue in Thessaloniki - a city-camp conquered by the forces of the Entente through Greek betrayal, expand into Macedonia, and conclude in the blockaded by the "Allies" Athens, in June 1916.
