Perfect external hard drive where I replaced my old type drives. I no longer worry about potential liquid spills or drops on the carpet. For me, it has a very slow speed (20Mb/s instead of 1000Mb/s) because I have an old computer with USB 2 connection and XFat format. From what I saw in videos on the internet, with USB 3+ and MacOs format, the speed skyrockets to the advertised speed. When I upgrade the machine, I will update the comment.
Usage with Final Cut for video editing, very good, fast, etc. Unfortunately, I confirm the comments about disconnections, which were not that frequent for me, so it didn't particularly concern me during the 1 year of use. That's why I take away 1 star. The T5 did not have this problem. Now let's move on to the T9 to see...
New purchase, I connect it to my MacBook Pro, I use it for photo storage. Its speed is satisfactory, writing at around 750 MB/s, reading faster. Good build quality, looks very durable and seems to withstand drops and heavy use. On the plus side, it includes two cables, one c to c and one c to a, of very good quality. I consider its price a bit expensive, but if this is accompanied by the well-known longevity of Samsung SSDs, I'm okay with it. I would like to compare it with the x9 pro from Crucial, which comes at a significantly lower price. I haven't used it with video, but for all other types of files, it is more than adequate.
I work directly on the disk with Photoshop files with layers and I have no speed issues. The build quality is very good plus it is very lightweight and small in size.
21/11/2024.
Unfortunately, I am coming back because the disk disconnects very often and without moving almost at all. The problem is that I am afraid it might burn out. I am removing two stars for this. I have the impression that it is the cable. I will check and update.
I believe that the quality of the Samsung T7 in external hard drives has reached a very high level. Fast data transfer without the need for direct power connection to your computer. It does not heat up like other external drives, it is durable and very lightweight, the size is like a pack of cigarettes, slim. The price is a bit high, but worth every euro! And reliable for file storage, they will not be lost!
Bought today for 100€ the 1TB.
I got it for dual use, some days on the Nvidia Shield Pro and some others on the MacBook Air M1.
I hope it turns out reliable.
I already have the hard drive here for a few months, I thought I would mention the problems I have with this specific SSD with continuous disconnections. From time to time, it disconnects either when I use it for video or photo, but also during games that I have saved on it, causing the program to crash. It is notorious in forums for the issues it presents. https://www.google.com/search?q=Samsung+Portable+SSD+T7+Shield+dissconects&oq=Samsung+Portable+SSD+T7+Shield+dissconects&aqs=chrome..69i57.3829j0j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
p.s. No matter what solutions I have tried, I have not been able to make it work properly and I simply keep it until I find another one without using it much.
I have had it for 2 days and out of curiosity, I tried copying a 4k movie of 5gb to it and to the USB stick I was using before it.
On the USB stick, the movie took 4 minutes and 20 seconds, and on the external hard drive, it took 20 seconds.
Yes, I can't believe it runs so fast while being the size of a credit card and as thin as a smartphone.
Completely silent, with a very durable casing and with 2 cables included, a USB-C to USB-C and a USB-C to USB, with a thick casing.
I declare myself extremely satisfied, it's worth every penny.
