Description

Unprecedented mega-fires and floods, loss of human lives and property, massive infrastructure destruction... We observe daily, from domestic and foreign news sources, how real is the red - or perhaps green? - thread that connects Europe with the Amazon, Asia with North America, the North with the South Pole. It is the thread of the common ongoing struggle "to change the system and not nature and the climate, from the protection of the indigenous people fighting for the Amazon to securing resources for a just transition to the post-lignite era." This struggle is distinguished by its particularly gendered aspect. It is no coincidence that its iconic figures are girls, women, activists, researchers, scientists, writers, journalists, - both unsung and prominent - sometimes tragically victims of the modern period of climate barbarity. While Greta or Jane Goodall may be the most well-known, they are not the only ones. The voices, initiatives, actions, and reactions of many women around the world compose the critical gendered footprint of the climate crisis: "it is precisely women who directly suffer its consequences, those who are called to address it at all levels, they are the ones who will take initiatives, contribute to policies, seek sustainable solutions, not only for their immediate environment but for societies, the planet." Women, therefore, can be part of the solution to a crisis that is existential and whose real confrontation involves a radical change in the ways of production, consumption, development that "wage war on nature," as reiterated by the U.N. Secretary-General A. Guterres. This existential crisis for the planet and our lives constitutes the modern field of conflict between the Left and the Right. A conflict attempted to be captured through weekly documentation, as supplemented by additional unpublished texts. Events, developments, research, measurements, observations regarding global warming from the Amazon to Europe, glacier melting, biodiversity loss, pollution, pandemics. But also regarding the active factors: international organizations, governments, financial institutions, the fossil fuel industry, international ecological organizations, activists, scientists, researchers, civil society, specialized websites, etc. A documentation with a perspective, then. A spark, I hope, to "change our way of thinking" as the ecological crisis demands and to "reinvent everything" as noted by the French philosopher Bruno Latour: to reinvent politics, law, science, cities." And an observation: the texts of this book have an expiration date: The end of the climate crisis...
