I bought the book for my 8-year-old daughter. However, I don't think this book is intended for children... It is an AMAZING short portrayal of a daughter and a mother and their complex relationship.. When I read it to my daughter, at first she didn't fully grasp it, although I saw that she was saddened. When I explained some things to her, then she told me that this book makes her sad and she doesn't want it.
But I loved it... I lived through it. I want to say that the book has meanings that young children cannot understand.
