Asia Minor Catastrophe. Uprooting. Lost homelands. Treaty of Lausanne. The first major population exchange in modern History. Millions of tragedies, countless stories of persecuted souls. Most of them we never learned. Others, those that the refugees narrated to their children and grandchildren, slowly get mixed up, sink into oblivion, and are lost. Very few of them were recorded on paper. Very few were saved, to raise the memory against human mistakes that, when forgotten, are repeated.

There, at the watery borders, in the narrow passage between Lesbos and the Asia Minor coast, four of these stories unfold. Four people from Ayvalik narrate. Three Greeks and one Turk: Fotis Kontoglou, Elias Venezis, Agapi Venezis-Molyviatis, Ahmet Yorulmaz. And when the feet touch the ground again, today tries to reckon with yesterday.
