I have had the grinder for about 22 months and I use it daily (90g/day). I consider two things given: first, that we are talking about a grinder that costs 50 Euros (the cheapest in this category), and second, that if someone asks "what coffee do you want?" you will hear an answer like "I want a plain espresso, or a filter coffee!" This grinder comes from its "mother" with specifications for a good filter coffee grind. If we want a grind for espresso (with a finer grind), then the intervention that all previous reviewers mention is almost a one-way street. It is not difficult, it just requires patience. By making the modification and rotating the gear by 1/4, I found that it covers almost all known quality beans on the market. With this grinder, I have a homogeneous, uniform, smooth extraction without foam and bubbles. Several experiments were done with various beans, even with decaf beans. Of course, it requires a lot of patience for many trials and several grams of ground beans that end up in the trash. But there is no other way, unfortunately! What I took care of in each trial was to change ONE parameter each time. That is, first I started by changing the grind size and keeping constant: the bean variety, the coffee brewing machine (espresso machine), the machine's pressure, and the quality and quantity of water (filtered). Then I would change the bean variety and keep the other parameters constant, etc. After all this, you can indeed achieve excellent results, and I can say that it approaches to a high degree the grind of other grinders that are more "famous" and significantly more expensive. Something I noticed (with this particular grinder) is that Latin American beans require one click more (towards finer) compared to African beans. Of course, this doesn't make any sense (to me), but I mention it as an (unexplained) observation. The tests were done on a Gaggia machine and two Delonghi machines: the first is a Gaggia Viva Deluxe, the second is the La Specialista EC9335, and the last one is a Magnifica ESAM 4000. The EC9335 has more adjustment capabilities, but the final result is excellent with all three machines. And I can say with certainty that this grinder is comparable to the built-in grinders in the two (Delonghi) machines out of the three. If someone has a machine with a pressurized filter basket (i.e., the one with the double bottom and the hole in the middle) and given that the morphology of the "basket" itself sets some limits, then this grinder will perfectly meet your needs without many trials. In conclusion, this grinder is a very honest and cost-effective purchase, and I highly recommend it for espresso extraction with the following two suggestions: 1) Make the modification if you have a machine that allows you to adjust pressures, etc., and 2) perform the necessary tests. In any other case where you want an espresso with milk and/or frothed milk and/or sugar, etc., then perhaps (I have no personal experience) the previous two are not necessary. It also depends on each person's requirements for their "coffee."

Update 31/3/2021: I recently purchased a second (identical) grinder. I found that the grinder came with a correction from the factory! That is, in the modification I mentioned above, the rotation of the wheel does not require the 90 degrees that the previous grinder I bought 2 years ago required. Now with less than 30 degrees, I had exceeded the cutting grade (towards the thin) for espresso! And I'm referring to grinding coffee beans from the same company, the same type, etc. (reference beans). I should emphasize that this conversion is significant for very fine-textured espresso coffee cutting for particularly hard bean varieties (e.g. Sumatra) and for non-pressurized machines. For filter coffee, no conversion is needed anymore, both for most espresso beans and for most espresso machines.
Update 17/6/21: With the "explosion" that has been happening in recent years in the imports of quality coffee beans as well as the increasing technology in their roasting by Greek companies, you have the opportunity to find excellent coffee beans (at reasonable prices, around 40-55 Euros / kilo) with which the conversion in the mill will not be necessary. Personally, after several trials, I have found 3 Greek companies (and there are certainly many more) that import and roast coffee beans in such a way that the conversion of the mill is not necessary, because the coffee bean and its roasting give an excellent grind for an espresso. In the end, the only thing certain is that it requires constant searching and experimentation! Also, I should mention that after 42 months of use, the mill operates flawlessly. Perhaps (I emphasize perhaps) there may be a very slight difference in the grinding of the beans (not as fine as in the beginning), but by changing one "click" of the cutting grade, we immediately have the desired result. I want to clarify that for the preparation of French coffee (or filter coffee), no conversion was needed and the result is always a very tasty coffee! You can watch a very short video with grinding beans and preparing French coffee at https://youtu.be/NpLPbyGLyB0

In order to have satisfactory espresso grinding, you need to open it and adjust the blades, meaning you have to open it and follow the instructions you will find on YouTube. Is it easy to do? Yes and no, it depends on how skilled your hands are. Is it worth it? After a year of use, I would say NO. Also, as soon as you open it, you say goodbye to the warranty.

What happened to me. I made the adjustment, the grinder worked with excellent grinding BUT in a short period of time, the settings broke down, I had to open it again and in the end, the result was that after a year of use, the grinder was misaligned and I had to throw it away. All the electric grinders of this type that I tried were inadequate for espresso and expensive. I ended up with a simple and cheap electric grinder that cost 10 euros, which I had bought, and I just need to insist more time for it to grind the espresso as I want it.

Coffee bean grinder. Very good mill, obviously it is not professional, it won't grind the coffee to powder like a pre-ground one from the supermarket, but it does its job and grinds very well.

  • Unfortunately, it doesn't work for espresso grinding.. it has a very coarse grind on fine. On the positive side. Nice as a construction and quite durable. You choose how many cups you want to grind. If you make the modification (which is easy, the steps are on YouTube) it transforms into a good grinding machine

If you deal with the apple and the coffee, you will see a very good result. (The patented setting for the higher grinding is MANDATORY) It's not something that should scare you; it's quite simple, anyone can do it with a screwdriver. If you don't want to waste a lot on the apple and really want to achieve a very good result, go for this apple. The difference with this one, however, is that it will frustrate many until they achieve a proper result, and also this particular apple takes more time until you get the dose for the

I have it for a year and I absolutely have no complaints. I make espresso, it is very good at grinding. Its construction is very good. Okay the container is plastic so it generates static electricity and a small amount of coffee sticks to the walls, but it doesn't create any problems at all. Really worth its money

I have been using it since last Easter. It is an excellent grinder in its category.

For espresso, it does a great job even without any adjustments to the grinder. Okay, it splatters sometimes, but if you don't want to upgrade to a category of 150€+, it is really value for money. Probably the new batches (including mine) have improved the grinding for espresso.

I use a normcore bottomless portafilter on a Delonghi Dedica machine and always fresh beans. In fact, with good pressure from the tamper, there are times when it doesn't splatter at all.

As a general comment, it is a very good choice for those who are starting their espresso experience. If I change my machine later, then I will consider upgrading the grinder as well.

P.S. I also tried it for filter coffee and the result is very good.

First of all: If you want to grind espresso, simply DO NOT buy this grinder. I have done the conversion that is suggested online and even so, it doesn't grind fine enough.
    Now, apart from that:
It grinds coffee or anything else very well (I tried it with flaxseeds and it worked amazingly). It has a timer to stop at a certain quantity and overall it functions decently. It has a decent capacity (definitely in grams) and significant amounts of coffee stick to the plastic parts (static). It is noisy, especially when it runs out of coffee and throws some beans back when grinding the last ones.

A mill of 50 to 55 euros highly satisfactory for home use. We must understand what we are buying and why. I have ground espresso so far in 2 different coffee beans at the last fine level and I really have no complaints. Of course, we put a free portafilter in the machine and not the mama as the mama blocks for fun with many types of espresso. From there on, I will come back to see the taste from other coffees as for so long I was buying pre-ground which sometimes was not what I expected

I have had it for almost 6 years. For those who want to make espresso without a pressurized portafilter, they will definitely need to use a screwdriver to adjust how finely it grinds, and even then, the result will be just barely satisfactory. It is not made for cutting espresso, but despite that, I bought it for 35 euros, and considering the years it has lasted and still endures, I consider it a value for money choice with a little bit of tinkering :P (without having tried the cheaper products, but comparing it to grinders that cost 200+). The assembly is not difficult and takes no more than 10 minutes.

I have the grinder since 9/22 and I am completely satisfied. I use it with a Dedica EC685 with a non-pressurized portafilter and it grinds the espresso quite finely without making the mess that other users mention with the blades. It seems that in the new devices that are sold, the company listened to the complaints of the users and the blades come properly adjusted from the factory. It makes quite a bit of noise when it operates, but in this price range, we can't have it all.

I have had it since 2017 and I did the relevant mod from the beginning and it works perfectly and the coffee with delonghi 685 is excellent. An espresso machine technician had told me that the best coffee you will drink is from a café with professional equipment and he is right, but I make better coffee than some cafés that I wonder why they sell coffee as a product. Of course, they have improved since the 90s when you had to go to a specific café for good espresso because the coffee in other cafés was not drinkable. Anyway, with the combination of these devices, I always like it and enjoy it... I cut espresso at 1

Very good grinder for its price always because it cannot be compared to a grinder that costs twice or five times as much. I use it for espresso with an unpressurized portafilter and I really didn't expect it to have such a good result. It grinds the espresso quite well and not at the last level. The older series had to be modded to achieve this, but the new ones need to have the gaps changed. The only downsides are that there is inconsistency in the ground coffee, which affects the espresso especially, but it levels out somewhat in the fine grind. It is very electrostatic, which can be solved with a little water on the coffee beans, but not completely. It makes quite a bit of noise. And the grind settings have a large variation. Don't expect everything to be perfect for 50 euros. However, for those who don't want perfection, it's fine.

The old one opened and "got hacked". After about 3 years, its blades gave up and I bought a new one. The new one (same model) as soon as I "tightened" it, went straight to find a fault despite my conservative approach. As soon as I tightened it one click tighter than it was, it feels like it's catching powder between the teeth and spins (it doesn't pull hairs). I brought it back to factory settings. CAUTION because they may have changed the tolerances/gaps!

For the Delonghi Dedica with the factory pressurized basket on the fine setting, it cuts just fine, it's like coffee from the supermarket. Now, for the non-pressurized basket, the well-known trick is a one-way street. I did it from the first hour of purchase, turned the dial more than 90 degrees and it didn't cut the coffee on the fine setting, but it's not a problem because you adjust it a little higher than fine and it's perfect. The coffee comes down in 20 seconds with satisfactory crema. In short, the apple is worth its money for the €50 I bought it for, you have fresh coffee when you want it.

I bought this specific grinder with some reservations about whether it would grind the espresso finely enough, after reading the reviews. In the end, without even needing to use the finest setting, which is 12, I grind my espresso perfectly satisfactorily for my espresso machine. For the Delonghi Dedica that I have, the grind setting at 9 for espresso is excellent. I haven't used it yet for filter or Greek coffee, but I imagine that since it succeeded in the difficult part of grinding espresso, it will be excellent for the rest as well.

Simply put, the mill with its ceramic blades breaks the coffee instead of grinding it. The coffee comes out much more bitter and acidic compared to a high-quality mill (with metal blades). It does not produce better results than pre-ground coffee, unless it has been excessively stale.

Search the internet for articles from serious professionals and enthusiasts. It is suitable for a spice mill though. Its construction is poor, with the plastic parts falling off.

Generally satisfied with the grinder. Its noise is tolerable, a grinder is ultimately... it can't be noiseless.
The grind settings for coffee barely cover me. I grind almost to the finest setting to achieve the desired grind (according to a friend who is a barista and compared it to the grind of my machine, it is somewhere close to the finest setting of the Delonghi). However, I am still experimenting and will come back to this issue.
I am considering making the "intervention" to make it grind a little finer anyway.

It is not suitable for Greek coffee as it does not have a fine enough grind, and I bought it mainly for Greek coffee. I don't know if there is a home machine for Greek coffee at similar prices. It's okay... I settled for the filter.
